The short answer

A furnished flat in Stratford-upon-Avon you can take for a month.

A one month rental sits in the gap the normal rental market leaves open. Letting agents want a twelve month assured shorthold tenancy, referencing, a guarantor and a protected deposit. A hotel will take you for a month but will charge you as though you were there for three nights. What we do is let whole furnished apartments in Stratford-upon-Avon by the month: you arrive with a suitcase, everything is already there, every bill is in the price, and when the month is up you either extend or you hand the keys back. Stratford is a town rather than a city, so a central property is genuinely central: everything is a walk.

Called a few different things

People search for this in a dozen ways and mean the same thing. A 1 month rental Stratford-upon-Avon listing, short stay apartments Stratford-upon-Avon, short term apartment rentals Stratford-upon-Avon, short term apartments Stratford-upon-Avon, monthly rentals Stratford-upon-Avon, short let apartments Stratford-upon-Avon, long stay apartments Stratford-upon-Avon, temporary accommodation Stratford-upon-Avon, a one month short term rental, a 1 month apartment rental Stratford-upon-Avon, a month to month lease, a monthly let, or simply a flat for a month.

Why the normal route does not work

You do not need a twelve month tenancy. You need somewhere to live for a month.

That mismatch is the whole problem. A letting agent cannot help you, because their product is a year. A hotel can help you but the arithmetic is unpleasant by week two, and you still cannot cook. A monthly rental is the thing in between, and it tends to suit people in one of these situations:

Your house sale or purchase has moved and you are between homes
You are new to Stratford-upon-Avon and not ready to sign for a year
Building work, a leak or an insurance claim has made home unusable
You are on a contract or placement in the city for a few months
A relationship, a job or a move has changed at short notice
You are a student or a visiting academic on a short placement

Where you would be

What a month in Stratford-upon-Avon actually puts you near.

01

The summer and winter versions

Stay a month in July and you meet one Stratford. Stay from October to March and you meet another. The summer town is full, warm and slow moving, with coach parties in the centre and every table by the water taken. The winter one is thin, dark by five and much more local. People who stay long enough tend to prefer the second.

02

Where the actual shopping happens

The centre is built for visitors, so it runs to gift shops, tea rooms and places selling fudge. Real provisioning happens at the edges, at the larger supermarkets and retail parks out on the Birmingham Road side, which is a short drive or a bus rather than a walk carrying bags. Better to learn that in week one than in week three.

03

The river stops being scenery

To a visitor the Avon is a photograph. Live here a few weeks and it turns into the route you walk in the evening: the towpath up to the canal basin, the far bank by the Recreation Ground, the path down to Holy Trinity. The Greenway, which follows the old railway line towards Long Marston, is the one people find last and then use most.

04

The Cotswolds start just south

You do not have to plan a trip. The Cotswolds begin more or less at the edge of town, so Chipping Campden, Broadway and the villages on the way are an afternoon rather than an expedition. Warwick and the Coventry side are the other direction, roughly half an hour. Over a long stay that is what stops the weekends repeating themselves.

05

Which days the town changes

A month here teaches you the calendar. Weekends and school holidays are the full version. A Tuesday in term time is another town entirely, and the attractions are at their calmest then. Matinee days put a crowd on the streets in the middle of the afternoon. Market days bring Rother Street to life. After a fortnight you plan around all of it without thinking.

06

What is open after ten

Not a great deal, honestly. A handful of pubs, a few takeaways up towards Greenhill Street, and that is broadly the list. This town does not really have a late night. On a short visit that is irrelevant. Over two or three months it is one of the genuine differences between here and a city, and people notice it around week four.

07

A month here without a car

It can be done and it makes the stay a lot smaller. The town is walkable end to end, so daily life is fine. Everything past the edges is not. The villages, the Cotswolds, the country pubs and the larger shops all assume a vehicle. Rural buses are infrequent and stop early. Without one you get to know a very small radius.

08

What stays after the novelty

The timbered fronts stop registering after a fortnight, which is when the place starts getting interesting. What lasts is the walk out to the Welcombe Hills, the fields north of the town, the water, and a centre small enough that people know your face by week three. Some find it too small by month two. Most decide the quiet was the point.

Booking direct

The same property, without the platform's cut.

Our properties are on Airbnb and Booking.com as well, and you are welcome to book there. Booking direct also avoids the guest service fee the big platforms add on top, which on a longer Stratford-upon-Avon stay is not a small number. Booking with us direct also means you are talking to the people who actually run the property rather than a message thread inside an app, which matters when you need an early check-in or an extra week.

For a month or more, message reservations rather than booking night by night online. Monthly rates are not the nightly rate multiplied out, and they are not always shown on the booking calendar. Tell us the dates and how many of you and we will quote the month properly.

Stratford-upon-Avon questions

What people ask about staying in Stratford-upon-Avon.

Which part of Stratford-upon-Avon should I be in?

Most of what you would need day to day sits in the town centre, the riverside and the streets around the theatres. Tell us where you need to be each morning rather than which postcode you fancy, and we will be honest about what is close to it and what only looks close.

Can I park in Stratford-upon-Avon?

Parking is the one genuinely awkward thing about Stratford. The town centre car parks fill with visitors from mid morning in summer, the one way system is unforgiving, and a property with its own space is worth considerably more here than the same property in a city.

How easy is it to get around Stratford-upon-Avon without a car?

Birmingham is fifty minutes by train, the M40 puts Oxford at an hour and London at two, and the Cotswolds start immediately south.

What is there to do in Stratford-upon-Avon on a day off?

The theatres, the river and the town itself fill an evening, and the Cotswolds, Warwick, Leamington and the National Trust properties nearby fill a weekend. On a long stay the surrounding area matters more than the town, because you will have seen the town by week two.

Questions we get asked

What people ask before taking a month.

What does a 1 month rental in Stratford-upon-Avon actually cost?

Less per night than the same flat taken for a weekend, and it varies by property, by size and by time of year. If you searched for a cheap 1 month rental Stratford-upon-Avon, the honest answer is that a monthly figure is worth asking for rather than guessing, because the price on the booking calendar is a nightly rate and a month is priced differently. Message us with your dates and you will get a single number with everything in it.

Is there a deposit, referencing or a credit check?

No. This is a booking, not a tenancy, so there is no referencing, no guarantor and no protected deposit scheme to get your money back out of at the end. Some properties hold a small damage deposit that is released after checkout, and we will say so before you book rather than after.

Are bills and council tax included?

Yes, all of them. Gas, electricity, water, council tax and wifi are in the price. There is nothing to set up in your name and nothing to close down when you leave, which is most of the reason people choose this over a short tenancy.

Can I take it for three or six months?

Yes. A 3 month rental Stratford-upon-Avon booking and a 6 month rental Stratford-upon-Avon booking are both normal here, and the rate improves again past the first month. Tell us the full length at the start rather than extending a month at a time and you will get a better price and keep the same flat.
