The docks and the northern waterfront
Most of Liverpool's large construction work sits north of the Pier Head: Liverpool Waters, the Central Docks, the Ten Streets area and the new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock. Beyond that the working port runs on up through Seaforth and Bootle. The dock road along the waterfront is the artery for all of it and it backs up badly, so a site three miles away can still cost you half an hour.
Speke, Halewood and the east
The other half of the work is out at Speke and Halewood: the commerce park by the airport, the pharmaceutical plants, the car factory and the industrial estates strung along the M57 and M62. From a central base that is a run against the morning flow rather than into it. If your site is out that way, staying central works better than the map suggests it will.
Parking a van in Liverpool
The centre is permit bays and pay and display, and most multi storey car parks have a height barrier that a Transit with a rack on the roof will not clear. Surface parking at ground level or an off street space is the thing worth checking before you commit to a street. Tool theft is a real problem here, as it is in every city, so a lit and overlooked spot beats a cheap one.
The tunnels, the bridges and early starts
Work on the Wirral means the Queensway or the Kingsway tunnel, both tolled and both queueing from around half seven. Runcorn and the chemical plants beyond it mean the Mersey Gateway, also tolled. A seven o'clock start is one of the few advantages of the trade, because the tunnels are still clear at six. Coming back at five is a different matter and there is no clever way round it.
Breakfast at six and late food
The city centre is built around evenings rather than early mornings, so at half five the cafes are shut and the coffee comes from a garage forecourt. The proper breakfast places are out on the main roads and near the industrial estates, which is where the crews eat anyway. Going the other way, hot food after nine is easy in town and much harder in the suburbs.
Pick the road out, not the street
The common mistake is choosing somewhere close to the site as the crow flies and then discovering the only route runs through the school run and two sets of lights. What matters is which road you join. The M57, the M62 and the East Lancs do the real work of moving people around Merseyside, and five minutes from one of them beats two miles from the job.
Winter, wet gear and dark afternoons
From November the light goes by four and you finish in the dark. Liverpool takes its weather off the Irish Sea rather than getting deep cold, which means wet far more often than frozen, and boots and waterproofs need somewhere to dry overnight or you start the next day in them. A radiator you can commandeer and a hard floor by the door matter more in January than anything else.
Friday afternoon and the run home
If you travel back at the end of the week, leaving Merseyside after two on a Friday puts you into the M62 and the M6 at their worst, and Thelwall viaduct is usually where it stops moving. Crews finishing at midday get away clean. Anyone working the full day often finds an extra night and an early Saturday start costs less time overall than sitting in it.

Liverpool's professional work sits in a tight block around Old Hall Street, Castle Street and the Pier Head, with the creative and tech side in the Baltic Triangle ten minutes south. A central apartment covers both on foot.
Can I park in Liverpool?
Parking in the centre is paid and mostly multi-storey, and the residential streets around the Georgian Quarter are permit zones. If you are driving daily, ask about the specific property before you book rather than assuming, because it varies street by street here more than it does in a purpose built block.

The waterfront, the two cathedrals, the Baltic Triangle and the Georgian Quarter are all walkable from a central base, and the Wirral, Crosby beach and Formby are half an hour out. Liverpool is an easy city to have a day off in, which matters more on a long stay than people expect.

Can you invoice the company?
Yes, and that is the normal arrangement on a long job. One invoice a month with the dates, the address and a purchase order reference if you need one, rather than a folder of hotel receipts.
Is there parking for a van?
At some properties, and it is the first thing to ask. Tell us what you are driving when you enquire and we will put you somewhere it actually fits rather than somewhere the listing photo suggests it might.
How many can stay?
It depends on the property, and most of ours sleep four in separate rooms. For a bigger crew we can often put you in two properties close together. Message reservations rather than trying to make the calendar do it.
What about early starts and late finishes?
Check-in is a code, so there is no reception to reach and nobody to wake up. Leaving at half five is nobody's business but yours.
