Worcester's centre is compact and pleasant, and very little of the business space is in it. The offices and units project teams end up at sit on the ring road, out at Worcester Six by the motorway, or further into the county. A central apartment is good for the evenings and for the stations, but assume a car or a taxi in the morning rather than a walk.
Malvern and the science cluster
The science, engineering and defence work around Malvern is roughly twenty minutes south west of Worcester on a clear run and longer when the river crossings are busy. Plenty of people on those contracts stay in Worcester for the restaurants and the trains and accept the commute. It is a real choice though, and worth making deliberately rather than defaulting to the bigger name.
Foregate Street, Shrub Hill and Parkway
Foregate Street is genuinely central, a few minutes from the shops and the cathedral, and carries the Birmingham and London services. Shrub Hill is about ten minutes' walk out and quieter. Worcestershire Parkway sits a few miles south east with its own car park and picks up the Bristol to Birmingham line, which is often the better option if you are heading south.
Evenings in a small cathedral city
This is a small city and the evening reflects that. There is a good run of restaurants and old pubs around Friar Street, New Street and the cathedral end, all walkable from each other, and it winds down earlier than Birmingham or Manchester would. If you need a particular gym, a late supermarket or a specific cuisine, check it is actually here rather than assuming.
A day working from the flat
Not every day is spent on the client site, and Worcester has thinner options than a big city for working somewhere else. There are cafes and a couple of hotel lobbies, but no real spread of drop in desk space. That puts the weight on where you are staying: a table you can genuinely work at, a chair that is not a dining chair, and a connection that holds a video call.
Basing in Birmingham by default
The usual mistake on a Worcestershire project is to sit in Birmingham because it is the name everyone knows, then drive down and back each day. That is the better part of two hours of your own time, five days a week, on a corridor that does not flow at either end. If the work is here or at Malvern, being here is the cheaper decision in every sense.
Arriving on a Sunday night
Sunday rail services are thinner than the weekday timetable and much of the city is closed by early evening, so an arrival that looks simple on a Tuesday is a different thing on a Sunday. Birmingham Airport is the practical airport, reached up the M5 and M42 by road or by train with a change in Birmingham. Useful to know if you fly in and out on a rotation.
The Friday run home
Heading home at the end of the week, the M5 decides your afternoon rather than the mileage does. Friday traffic is heavy in both directions around Worcester, and through the summer the southbound holiday run makes it worse again. People who do this regularly either get away at lunchtime or wait until the evening. The ones who leave at four tend to learn from it once.

Can you invoice the company rather than me?
Yes, that is the normal arrangement. We invoice the company directly with the dates, the address and any purchase order reference, and VAT is shown properly. Give us the billing details when you book and it will be right first time rather than something you chase from a hotel lobby.
Do you do weekly or monthly corporate rates?
Yes. The rate drops as the stay gets longer and drops again beyond a month. For a Monday to Thursday pattern over a long project, talk to us rather than booking nights online, because there is usually a better way to structure it.
Can I actually work from the apartment?
Yes, and that is deliberate. There is desk space and proper wifi rather than a chair by a window and a connection that struggles with a video call. If you need to know the actual speed at a specific property before you commit, ask and we will tell you.
What if I arrive on the last train?
Fine. Check-in is self service with a code, so there is no reception to reach and nobody to wake up. Same for a five in the morning departure.
